The Cologne police arrested a 71-year-old man in the Vingst district of Cologne on Tuesday afternoon. Shortly before, he is said to have fired a shot at an apartment door in an apartment building, behind which a 37-year-old resident and her 13-year-old son were standing.
Police officers seized the used revolver and a knife from the man. The police set up a homicide commission and the Cologne public prosecutor’s office applied to the court to issue a pre-trial detention order on the urgent suspicion of attempted manslaughter.
71-year-old threatens a woman and fires a shot
According to initial investigations, the 71-year-old – an acquaintance of the victim – is said to have gained access to the apartment building on Ostheimer Straße under a pretext at around 1 p.m. “After the 37-year-old had not opened the door to him and yelled for help, the 71-year-old is said to have threatened her and fired a shot at the door after kicking the door,” says a police spokesman. The woman and her son went into shock and were taken to hospital. (red)
