British police have again arrested a suspect for the deaths of 39 Vietnamese in a refrigerated truck in England last October. The 40-year-old man was arrested in Ireland. He is suspected of manslaughter and people smuggling and will be brought before a Dublin court tomorrow.
It is still unclear what his role exactly was. Earlier this month, the truck driver admitted to 39 charges of manslaughter.
“This is one of the largest investigations in our history,” a British police officer told the BBC. “In the interest of the victims and their loved ones, we work tirelessly to get everything that came before this.”
Zeebrugge
The 39 dead were found in a refrigerator truck in Grays, not far from London, at the end of October. They were locked in an enclosed space where the temperature had dropped to 25 degrees below zero. The truck had come to England via Zeebrugge in Belgium.
The investigation collaborated with the police from seven other countries, including the police in the Netherlands.
