Arrest and Investigation of Woman Causing Disturbance at Fasting Site in National Assembly Headquarters

On the 14th, Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul arrested and is investigating a woman in her 50s on suspicion of causing a disturbance in front of the sit-in site in front of the National Assembly headquarters where Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was fasting, and injuring a police officer who was trying to stop him with a weapon.

According to the police, Mr. Kim (56) is accused of injuring two female police officers of the National Assembly Guard (obstruction of official duties) by shouting in front of the protest site at around 7:52 p.m. on the same day, and when asked to leave, he resisted and brandished a weapon.

They were taken to the hospital with injuries to their hands and arms.

According to the National Assembly Guard, Mr. Kim had a hand sign with support for Representative Lee written on it. It was discovered that in front of the protest site, in addition to Mr. Kim, several people who appeared to be supporters of Representative Lee gathered and made a fuss, asking why Representative Lee, who was fasting, was not taken to the hospital quickly.

Representative Lee was not at the sit-in site at the time of the disturbance. Representative Lee moved the location of his hunger strike the day before from the tent in front of the National Assembly headquarters to the party representative’s office in the headquarters.

The police plan to investigate the specific circumstances of the incident against Mr. Kim.
