Last week, the police arrested two teenagers who stole several expensive electronic devices, such as smartphones, in Southeast. The robberies took place after the victims had put their things up for sale via Marktplaats.

The two would have approached them for an appointment after seeing the online advertisements. During such a meeting, the victims were robbed. Several reports were made and the police therefore started an investigation.
They could be picked up in collaboration with Marktplaats. “The suspects made an appointment on the street that day and again managed to run off with a telephone without payment”, the police said. “The two suspects were quickly arrested by officers who were present in the area.”
The police warns to be careful when selling stuff over the internet. “Always try to verify as much information as possible from the party you are trading with, preferably meet at a busy location with many people and cameras and if possible take someone with you.”
