You know the green basket, the yellow basket … And soon you will know the orange basket ! By 2023, the inhabitants of Eastern Pyrenees they will see a third bin coming to their house to sort the waste. Around Perpignan, several municipalities it will also be affected in the coming weeks. A third “orange” garbage can in the Pyrenees Orientales
Invited to our colleagues from France Blue Roussillonthis Monday, 12 September, the President of the SYDETOM 66 Bruno Valente announced the news. Information that the Departmental Syndicate of Transport, Treatment and Valorisation of Domestic Waste of the Eastern Pyrenees has confirmed to Perpignan News: the orange basket will arrive at your home in the coming months.
A basket for the separate collection of your “organic waste”: leftovers from meals and preparations
Objective ? The famous “Organic waste”, more commonly called the biodegradable waste or organic. Soon, you will no longer have to throw your meal leftovers in the green bin, but in the orange bin (in your bags). Ditto for meal preparation leftovers, such as fruit and vegetable peels.

This sorting will make it possible to better recover this waste, from compost production or even the production from biogas or biomethane, all included limiting the waste of food. “This is a national regulatory obligation and all municipalities in the country will have to be equipped accordingly in the coming years”, explains SYDETOM 66.
Several pilot municipalities around Perpignan
In the Eastern Pyrenees, orange garbage can thus point the tip of the nose. Several “pilot” municipalities have been designated, south of Perpignan: Villeneuve-de-la-Raho, a part of winch, from Sant’Andrea, d ‘Elne or alsoArgeles-sur-Mer. The district of windmill Perpignan is also worried.
