around fifty people collected waste on the banks of the Sèvre Niortaise

About fifty people took part this Saturday, February 20 in cleaning the banks of the Sèvres Niortaise in Niort. They walked along the river between the restaurant La Belle Étoile and La Rousille. The local branch of the Team river clean association proposed this operation. A success for this first time. The inhabitants want a cleaner nature. There is awareness.

Divided into several teams, the participants of this walk are equipped to collect the waste. Wheelbarrow, landing net, gloves and garbage bag in hand, they walked along the banks of the Sèvre Niortaise, their eyes glued to the ground, in search of the slightest dirt. They found a lot of plastic, packaging, polystyrene … But also still wrapped sofa and junk. Aurélien is a fisherman, but fishing was different today. “It’s a dip net, but not for the fish, for the waste that the population leaves lying around on the ground”, he smiles.

Awareness

As a sinner, he can see the pollution at the water’s edge. “We spend our year on the banks of the banks so we realize that there is a lot of waste on the ground”, he regrets. “It’s really exhausting”, adds Jules Naud, at the origin of the operation and also a sinner. Aurélien is there with his eight-year-old son, because there is no age for awareness.

There are also residents like Thierry. “I do this regularly. I collect trash, three or four a week”, he explains. Claire, a long pliers for picking up waste without bending down in her hand, is there too. “Pollution, plastic micro-pollution, it’s something that speaks to me and scares me”, she testifies. She wanted to take the plunge, but didn’t dare. With this event, it is now done. Other waste pick-ups are planned, also with boats to clean from the water directly.
