Hamburg: Thousands of people were evacuated after a bomb was found during the construction of a school building. A bomb from the Second World War was found during construction work at the primary school. The incident took place in the Sternschanze area of Hamburg, Germany.
About 5,000 people were moved to safer places. Restaurants and bars within a 300 meter radius were evacuated. Residents within 500 meters were advised not to go out and to keep their windows and doors closed. There is also a railway station in the area. Train traffic was temporarily affected.
The fire department said that the explosion of the bomb was completed in half an hour. The decontamination was completed by 10pm local time on Saturday. Finding WWII weapons is common in Germany. When found, the expert team usually neutralizes them.
