“Gaza, Gaza, Marseille is with you“. This Saturday nearly 2,000 demonstrators braved the risk of rain to support the Palestinian people as violence continued between Gaza and Israel. On the banners and boxes brandished by these Marseillais one could read “Stop the genocide “ or “Stop the massacre“.
Unbearable images
Demonstrators who have gathered in the Espace Bargemon and who say they are shocked by the images of the missiles which fall on Gaza and by the 120 dead, mainly Palestinians in recent days: “I decided to come after seeing a 1.5 year old girl on TV being shredded by a shell. I have a daughter of the same age, and as a mother and as a human being, we can’t stand this“breaths a mom in the gathering.
Very few incidents to deplore
A demonstration supervised by the security service of the CGT as one of our journalists was able to observe on the spot. According to the prefecture of Bouches du Rhône, 3 people were arrested for throwing projectiles and 1 for public and manifest intoxication. Several attempts to start a procession through the streets of Marseille were prevented by the police who had only authorized a static gathering.
