An evacuation right next to the water would have been too dangerous, said police spokesman Marco Jammer on Sunday: “The Viennese police then came with a large contingent. Tactically an extremely difficult situation, on the one hand the Danube Canal was quite full of people celebrating, and on the other hand many were drunk. That is why we waited for the time being, and the celebrants then voluntarily cleared the location at around 11.30 p.m. “
Police appeal to self-discipline
Although minimum distances were not observed in accordance with the Corona Ordinance and hardly anyone wore a mask, the police did not file a report. From time to time there are situations in which the police have to wait. The celebration finally broke up by itself. However, Jammer again appealed to self-discipline and compliance with the corona measures, in particular compliance with the minimum distances.
