“Everything has been at a standstill here since the beginning of November,” says Hubert Nieuwdorp as the operator of the Arnsberg Residenz-Kinocenter. “But the supply lines are checked here every week and the technology is started up so that no major damage can occur. Our loyal employees are on short-time work. So far, only advance payments have come from the November and December aid. Reserves for the planned renovation of the cinemas will soon be used up. “

What arrives new films towards cinema fans in the region?

To name just one film distributor: The “Universal” brings among other things “The Croods”, the ninth part of “Fast and Furious”, the new one „Minions“-Film as well „The Kings Man“ on the big screen.

This October is now the highlight for fans of James Bond announced: “No time to die” is the name of the latest adventure from “007”.

Therefore one is now waiting for the reopening. But that is only possible if all cinemas reopen on the same date. Why? “If neighboring cinema operators should open before or afterwards, we have a problem with film delivery. At a restaurant I get the meat from the wholesale market and process it for my customers. But we need footage. The big film distributors only bring big films on the market if all of Germany is there at the start. “

Since many films have already been released for streaming services in the meantime, the selection of new films is getting smaller and smaller, according to Nieuwdorp, and the German market has to step in. Films like “Wonder Woman” on Sky Premiere “will no longer be shown on the big screen with us.”

Therefore, you need a fixed opening date, which should be set two to three weeks in advance. “I see Easter as an opportunity to reopen the cinemas under the hygiene requirements. Because our associations and we cinema operators say: ‘The cinema is the safest place at this time!’ ”Thanks to the powerful ventilation systems with over 30 cubic meters of fresh air in Germany, there has not yet been a corona case in the cinema area. “Here at the Cineplex, the fresh air is blown in under the seats and drawn out in the ceiling.”
