After November 1989, Arnošt Moulík was responsible for the success of the first Czech performances of the musicals Les Miserables and Jesus Christ Superstar. Lui received the special award by decision of the Thalia Prize Awarding Board in 2013.
Moulík was born on January 5, 1935 in Pečky. He has been dedicated to his profession since 1960, when he joined the Karlín Music Theater. Three years later, he went to work in Brno, where, in addition to classical operettas, he staged several successful musicals, including My Fair Lady and West Side Story.
Moulík returned to Karlín in 1986 and prepared Sugar, Gypsies go to heaven and Funny Girl. After directing the musicals Bídníci and Jesus Christ Superstar, he resumed work in Brno and then again in Karlín. At one time, he took over the direction of the orchestra from Karl Vlach.
Moulík’s account includes the famous projects Hello Dolly!, Fiddler on the Roof, Bat, Man from La Mancha, Cage of Fools, Zorba the Greek and Chicago. He also studied Funny Girl at the North Bohemian Opera and Ballet Theater in Ústí nad Labem and prepared Čardášová Princess at the South Bohemian Theater in České Budějovice.
