Frankfurt am Main – VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold has been called up on Wednesday for the next two international matches for the German national football team. As Bayern pros Manuel Neuer and Dortmund’s Leon Goretzka and Julian Brandt have left the squad’s quarters, Arnold and 1899 Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann are now in the squad for their final two Nations League group games on Friday against the ‘Hungary in Leipzig and three days later in London against England.
Neuer and Goretzka tested positive for corona virus. Brandt has a flu infection, the DFB announced Wednesday.
28-year-old Arnold has played three international matches for Germany so far. After his debut in 2014, he was replaced by national team manager Hansi Flick in the two World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein (9-0) and Armenia (4-1) last year.
