Arnautovic was suspended for the second European Championship game against the Netherlands (0: 2) because of insulting his opponent while celebrating his own goal in the 3-1 win against North Macedonia. Coach Franco Foda has given the 32-year-old striker a guaranteed starting line-up for the game against tied Ukraine.
“The return of the previously suspended Marko Arnautovic gives us all great hope,” said Austria’s icon Herbert Prohaska and warned: “But you shouldn’t put everything on him.” Because no individual can win a game alone. Even a superstar like Lionel Messi at Barcelona needs the help of others. Consequently, the motto must be: “Everyone must develop on Marko.”
With a win, Austria would almost certainly make it into the round of 16 for the first time in a European football championship. With a draw, Austria would stay behind their direct opponents, but because of Ukraine’s better goal difference, they would have a good chance of advancing as one of the four best thirds in the group. Even in the event of a defeat, this is still possible.
