Arnautovic accused of racism in a remarkable celebration of Austrian goal

Marko Arnautovic’s outburst of anger after his goal for Austria can still have a tail. Opponent North Macedonia accuses the attacker of racism when celebrating the goal that set the final score at 3-1 and calls on UEFA to take action.

Arnautovic, former player of FC Twente, among others, will be against the Dutch national team with Austria on Thursday at 9 p.m. in the second group match at the European championship.

In the final phase of the game, substitute Arnautovic got into a fight with Gjanni Alioski. They may play for Austria and North Macedonia, but the roots of these two players are in Serbia and Albania respectively. And that is politically sensitive. Arnautovic went on a verbal rant after scoring and had to be restrained by his captain David Alaba.

‘Demand the most severe punishment’

Arnautovic apologized for his behavior the day after the game, but according to the North Macedonian association, that is not the end of the matter.

“We demand the most severe punishment for Arnautovic,” the European Football Association said. “We are always against nationalism, discrimination and all other insults and outbursts that do not fit into the spirit of football.”
