Army prevents infiltration of displaced Syrians at Lebanon-Syrian border, calls for action to reduce illegal displacement

It was noteworthy yesterday that the army announced that its units had thwarted, last week, attempts to infiltrate at least 1,300 displaced Syrians at the Lebanese-Syrian border, coinciding with the beginning of popular movements protesting the continued flow of Syrian displacement.

In this context, several security reports were received indicating the need to be alert to the calls for demonstrations in a number of areas, especially within the neighborhoods of the city of Beirut, in order to urge the state’s security and administrative agencies to take the necessary measures to reduce the phenomenon of illegal Syrian displacement, which has recently worsened.
According to reports, these movements may cause a major problem in these areas and neighborhoods between the Lebanese and the displaced Syrians, especially since there is a tension between the aforementioned groups on economic, residential, and even moral grounds.
According to the information, the security services have instructed the concerned municipalities to avoid these problems between the Lebanese and Syrians and to immediately intervene with the authorities and official authorities, whether municipal or optional, so that these problems do not become chronic and lead to a permanent conflict with undesirable consequences, especially in the eastern and western suburbs of Beirut, and also in the Beirut suburb. According to information from “Lebanon 24”, intensive meetings are being held between a large number of mayors in various districts and governorates, and even mukhtars in villages that do not have municipalities, and these meetings may expand to include parishioners and endowment officials in order to address the great danger resulting from the new waves of Syrian displacement.
A municipal source familiar with the organization of these meetings said that semi-binding recommendations were approved, the most prominent of which is restrictions within the law on anyone who does not hold legal and identification papers, in terms of rent, housing and work, and pushing for their final deportation, conducting a new census and separating between the old, legitimate displaced person and the displaced person who is He recently entered illegally.
The source concluded that there is a committee emerging from these meetings in the districts and governorates in order to coordinate with the official authorities and security services, given that the demographic situation of Syrian displacement has become explosive, especially at the beginning of winter and the continued deterioration of the economic situation in Syria.
