Alma Cooper from Michigan, a 22-year-old Army officer, is the new Miss USA. American media reports. It is Alma Cooper, an Afro-Latina from Michigan, also with a master’s degree in Data Science from Stanford University. She won the title after Noelia Voigt resigned last May, presumably for mental health reasons.
“As the daughter of an immigrant worker, a proud Afro-Latina and a U.S. Army officer, I am living the American dream,” she said during a panel discussion. Cooper was crowned by Hawaiian Savannah Gankiewicz, who inherited the crown after Voigt stepped down.
The pageant is the first without an age limit for contestants. The Miss Universe Organization has in fact eliminated the ban that prevents queens who are over 28 from participating. Among the finalists was Kristina Johnson, 41, from Arizona, and several contestants from Montana, North Dakota, Maryland and Indiana were all over 30.
