US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin have sent an unequivocal message to the Israeli government: resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza within 30 days, or face potential sanctions on deliveries of weapons.
This warning, revealed by Israeli media N12, comes in a context of growing tensions. The United States, the main provider of military aid to Israel, expresses deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. The document sent to Israeli ministers Ron Dermer and Yoav Gallant is clear: “Failure to implement these measures could result in consequences for American policy, in accordance with American law.” This American pressure echoes recent statements by French President Emmanuel Macron, who called for an end to arms deliveries to Israel for the war in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu then responded by calling any idea of an embargo a “shame”.
The American ultimatum now places Israel in a delicate position. As the country faces threats on multiple fronts, including from Iran and its regional allies, the prospect of an arms embargo could seriously compromise its defense capability.
