Rheinmetall engineers have designed a promising 155-mm artillery mount. It will be presented to the public in Bristol at Ashton Gate Stadium.
Details
The turret with the self-propelled gun is mounted on the RMMV HX3 chassis, which has a 10×10 wheel arrangement. The installation is able to quickly change position. The gun boasts increased range and high rate of fire. The German concern claims that the self-propelled guns will be among the most advanced artillery systems in the world.
The HX3 chassis was developed by RMMV, a Rheinmetall-established joint venture with MAN. The design of the artillery unit was undertaken by Rheinmetall engineers. As for the fighting compartment, the management of the concern decided to involve Elbit Systems specialists in its creation.
The HX3 car received a cabover layout. It is equipped with a MAN D26 diesel power unit, which works in tandem with a ZF transmission. The MAN EE-Architecture system is responsible for the management. Mine protection and an armored cab will be optionally installed at the request of the customer.
The self-propelled gun is equipped with a 155-mm howitzer, created on the basis of the PzH 2000 gun, with an automatic loading system. 192 modular charges and 40 shells are placed in the body of the installation. The artillery mount received a fire control system manufactured by Elbit Systems. It boasts an integrated computer, navigation system and communications.
