Armonaitė: There is a possibility that the Taiwanese representative office in Lithuania will open a semiconductor plant

“All opportunities are real and this opportunity is also real, whether it is a Taiwanese company or not Lithuanian companies in cooperation with Taiwanese companies. We see that the demand for semiconductors in the world is huge, we have supply disruptions today. In the long run, the demand will only grow, with the expansion of the electric car industry, the smart technology industry, computers are becoming more powerful and semiconductors will be needed, ”said A. Armonaitė at the event of the Lithuanian-Taiwan Trade and Investment Forum on Wednesday.

According to the Minister, in order to stabilize the situation, it would be best to produce semiconductors in Lithuania.

“What we are seeing is that supply chains are disrupted by both the pandemic and some disruption of energy resources, so we need to have those things as close to ourselves as possible, as close to home as possible, and preferably at home,” the minister said.

“When 20 percent. consists of production and industry, a significant part of the clever Hitech industry, that is, I would say, semiconductors are hygiene for Lithuania, and a lot of ambition, where a lot of homework is needed, ”added A. Armonaitė.

ELTA recalls that with the growing demand for personal electronics products during the pandemic, there has been a recent shortage of semiconductors in the market in various fields. According to the Minister, the visit of the Taiwanese Representation is a good opportunity for Lithuanian manufacturers to establish close ties with the development of high-tech industry, especially semiconductor production, in Lithuania.
