Arminia Bielefeld before relegation | Sports | DW

Arminia Bielefeld is becoming more and more likely to be relegated. On Friday evening, Arminen lost 2-1 at VfL Bochum due to a late own goal. In 17th place you still have 27 points and two points behind VfB Stuttgart. Should Stuttgart win at Bayern on Sunday, Bielefeld would have been relegated from the Bundesliga for the eighth time in their club’s history. “The Bundesliga table doesn’t lie so close to the end of the season,” said Bielefeld coach Marco Kostmann, sounding a little hopeless. “That’s how the game was today: no penetration power forward.”

Even with a draw between Bayern and VfB, the chances of staying up in the league would be very theoretical because of the worse goal difference. After the defeat in Bochum, rescue is only possible via relegation anyway.
