Armenia’s Decision on Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Membership

Armenia has not yet decided to withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Yerevan is giving itself time to think about its next steps. This is how the Armenian Prime Minister commented on the decision not to participate in the CSTO meeting scheduled for the end of November.

“The biggest fundamental problem is that the CSTO, in essence, refuses to fix its area of responsibility in Armenia. If we silently participate in these conditions [в мероприятиях ОДКБ], we can join the logic according to which the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia are being questioned,” Nikol Pashinyan said during a speech in the Armenian parliament. Speech by the Prime Minister broadcast on the YouTube channel of Armenia Today editions.

Previously, Pashinyan refused to participate in the CSTO meeting in Minsk, which will be held on November 23, reports RT. Later, the head of government said that there were several reasons for Armenia’s refusal to participate in the organization’s meetings.
