“Armenia Turns Away from Moscow, Strengthens Cooperation with FBI: Fighting Transnational Crime”

Yerevan strengthens cooperation with the intelligence services of the United States of America, turning away from Moscow.

Armenia is leaving Moscow’s orbit of influence. On May 16, the Armenian Investigative Committee signed a memorandum with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on cooperation.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia announced this on his official account in Facebook.

Washington at the signing of the important document was represented by Heder Berg, legal attache of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation in Armenia and Georgia.

Thanks to the memorandum, Armenians and Americans will join forces in the fight against transnational crime, including money laundering, illegal migration, human trafficking and others. The exchange of information between the two countries will be strengthened.

Armenia has already called the document “reaching a new qualitative level” of cooperation with America.

The memorandum is another evidence that Armenia is gradually leaving Moscow’s orbit of influence. The cooling in relations happened even during the Velvet Revolution in the spring of 2018, when the Armenian people overthrew the pro-Russian Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan, bringing the pro-Western Nikol Pashinyan to power instead.

However, the 44-day war for Karabakh in 2020 became a turning point in relations between the two countries. Russia did not provide military assistance to its ally, as a result of which Armenia suffered a crushing defeat and was forced to sign a surrender. Now the country is looking for more powerful and reliable allies than the Russian Federation.

Earlier, Dialog.UA reported that the Russian Federation launched trade wars against Armenia after Pashinyan’s turn towards NATO.

We also wrote that the State Duma announced the “illegality” of Armenia’s withdrawal from the USSR.
