The peace agreement signed in early November between Armenia and Azerbaijan goes beyond the cessation of armed conflict. Armenia has also agreed to transfer control of all territories outside its autonomous region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Five days ago, the Kalbajar region was handed over to Azerbaijan, today the Agdam region, and it will finally be the turn of the Lachin region on 1 December.

The Azerbaijani media reports that there are virtually no undemolished buildings in the reclaimed territories so far. France Press also reports that before the territory was handed over to the Azerbaijanis, many Armenians fled in a hurry to remove all their belongings, including slaughtering cattle, harvesting fruit from the trees, emptying cellars and even burning their homes.

Armenian media, meanwhile, have made loud allegations of violence and vandalism by ethnic Azerbaijani militias against ethnic Armenians.

On Thursday, 19 November, the end of the violence in Nagorno-Karabakh was also welcomed by the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Joseph Borrell, calling on all regional actors to refrain from any action or rhetoric that could jeopardize the ceasefire.
