Armenia and Azerbaijan are close to concluding a peace agreement. Baku handed over five basic principles of the peace treaty to Yerevan. There has been no response from the Armenian side yet. This was announced by the representative of the President of Azerbaijan for special assignments, Ambassador Elchin Amirbekov.
“At this decisive stage of the peace process, when the parties as a whole are not far from agreeing on a peace agreement, Yerevan’s sincere commitment to achieving concrete results is necessary,” writes The Guardian, quoting Amirbek. He added that the latest version of the text of the peace agreement was handed over to the Yerevan side. Now Baku is awaiting a response to its proposals from Armenia. It is noted that Azerbaijan outlined five basic principles in the peace agreement.
In 2022, Baku and Yerevan began discussing a peace treaty. This happened through the mediation of Russia, the European Union and the United States. At the end of May 2023, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia ready to recognize sovereignty Azerbaijani side within the borders of the USSR. That is, together with Nagorno-Karabakh. In 2023, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that to normalize relations there are serious preconditions with Yerevan. The parties must mutually recognize sovereignty and territorial integrity. In turn, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov announced that it is important for Russia to conclude a peace treaty between the two countries, reports RT.
