Yet Moscow does not seem capable of pacifying Armenia and Azerbaijan for the time being. Russia has good relations with both. Moscow has a military assistance agreement with Armenia and also has a small military post there. Most Russians and Armenians are Christians, but at the same time Russia also has economic and strategic (oil and gas) interests in Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea.
Another thing: Moscow seems to be delaying its support for Armenia and this may have to do with the coming to power of President Nikol Pasjinian two years ago, who is less outspokenly pro-Russia than his authoritarian predecessors. (Read more below the photo).
