BAKU – The beginning of the war Armenia and Azerbaijan, endless conflict. Recently, throughout 2023, in March and April, Armenian and Azerbaijani troops were again involved in clashes around the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The clashes claimed many lives, with three officials from the Armenian Ministry of Interior also becoming victims of this incident.

The beginning of this prolonged conflict for almost 30 years occurred because Armenia and Azerbaijan experienced a dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh region after the Soviet Union collapsed in the 1990s.

Legally the Nagorno-Karabakh region is part of Azerbaijan. Therefore, Azerbaijan applies the principle of territorial integrity. But the majority of people living in Nagorno-Karabakh are ethnic Armenians and they do not agree with integration with the Azerbaijani government.

In addition, this conflict is not only followed by the two countries that are in dispute, other countries such as Turkey and Russia also intervene in this conflict.

Turkey openly supports Azerbaijan on the grounds of ethnic and cultural similarities. In addition, Türkiye and Azerbaijan are natural gas sales partners.

Meanwhile, Russia actually has good relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan. However, Russia pampers Armenia more than Azerbaijan. This can be seen when Russia sells its weapons to these two countries, but only Armenia gets special prices.

However, as time goes by, the intensity of the conflict increases. It was recorded that from 1994 to 2020, this deadly feud occurred periodically. The peak was in April 2016, fierce fighting occurred for four days on the border line and killed hundreds of people on both sides.
