Armenia and Azerbaijan reached an agreement on Saturday on a “humanitarian ceasefire” that will take effect at midnight on Saturday, the two foreign ministries said in a joint statement.
“The Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan have agreed on a humanitarian ceasefire from 18:00 local time on October 18,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has confirmed this in an identical statement.
CONTEXT:
On the morning of September 27, at the actual border of Nagorno-Karabakh Heavy fighting began. Both sides accuse each other of starting war. Both Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh declared a state of war and general mobilization. War status and partial mobilization has also been announced by Azerbaijan.
There have been hostile relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia since the 1990s, when the war over the Nagorno-Karabakh region was fought.
