NEW YORK – A 70-year-old Bronx woman is recovering after being the victim of a violent assault and rape that police say occurred moments after entering her apartment building last Tuesday.
The woman entered her building in the Belmont section of the Bronx around 2:00 am when a masked suspect approached from behind, authorities said.
The alleged assailant pulled out a firearm and forced the woman up the ladder where he sexually assaulted her and raped her at gunpoint, according to a police report released Tuesday. The suspect then fled the building.
According to police, the woman arrived at a hospital in the Bronx on August 2, six days after the violent attack, and reported the incident to the police.
The statement says the woman suffered injuries to her body, but did not provide additional details.
The alleged rapist was last seen wearing a black head covering, a black hoodie, a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers. He was also in possession of a silver pistol, police said.
The department released surveillance videos and images obtained from the building and released them with the report on Tuesday.
