Armed subjects murdered a resident of the Shipibo-Konibo community in Cantagallo with a shot to the head on the afternoon of Sunday, March 24. The victim of the assault with a firearm responds to the name of Michael Gómez García, who minutes after the attack was transferred by a police unit to the 2 de Mayo National Hospital, where doctors from the emergency unit certified his death.
Gómez García, who leaves four minors orphaned, was the nephew of indigenous communicator Ítalo García, from Ucayali, who has been denouncing irregularities in the region.
According to community witnesses, the perpetrators of the crime would be Venezuelan criminals who roam the Santa Rosa area and engage in theft along the Yellow Line highway.
A resident of the area told RPP Noticias that the murder would have been an act of revenge, as she said that there was a theft of a cell phone in the area and the community members managed to catch one of the criminals.
“Out of revenge for that [el sujeto] “He came to look for the person who had caught him and because he couldn’t find him, they shot the other boy who is innocent,” he said.
For its part, the Ministry of Women and Populations, through its social networks, expressed its condolences and demanded a prompt investigation to find those responsible for the crime against Gómez García.
«We express our heartfelt condolences to the relatives and members of the Cantagallo native community, for the murder of Michael Gómez Garcia.
