Two of the thieves have been detained, the search for the others continues
Gunmen stormed a store of the famous Bulgari jewelry brand on Paris’ iconic Place Vendôme and robbed jewelry worth about 10m euros, AFP reported. A high-speed race with police on the streets of the French capital followed, shooting and arresting two of the suspects.
The robbery took place yesterday at noon, when in front of the guests of the nearby Ritz Hotel, three men, dressed in elegant suits, but armed with automatic weapons, broke into the jewelry store. After stealing the jewelry, the three set off from Vendome Square in a gray BMW, surrounded by four of their accomplices in scooters.
In the ensuing chase through the streets of Paris, police opened fire on the car, forcing the robbers to abandon it and flee on foot.
“After the rapid reaction of the Paris police, two of the robbers were detained and the others are wanted,” a tweet from law enforcement in the French capital said.
According to initial data, the stolen jewelry is worth about 10 million euros.
This is another big store robbery in Paris. In July, gunmen stole more than $ 2 million worth of jewelry on the Champs-Elysées. Security is among the main topics in the programs of all candidates in the upcoming presidential election.
