Armed Robbery at Hialeah Coffee Shop Caught on Surveillance Video, Suspect Arrested

Surveillance video released by police shows an armed robbery that occurred on May 1 at a Hialeah coffee shop.

Now the man who is captured in the images is facing justice and is accused of armed robbery, for this fact that occurred in a Hialeah establishment, located in the 2400 block of west with second avenue.

According to the arrest report, the suspect, identified by police as Alejandro Pérez Mujica, went to the San Lázaro cafeteria in Hialeah and ordered a colada, then stood in front of the counter and when he finished his coffee he left the establishment.

Minutes later he returned, intimidated one of the employees with a semi-automatic firearm, then entered the area that is restricted to those who work in the place and took a box with cash.

Mujica, who was arrested, faces armed robbery charges. According to Scarlett Hernandez, a Hialeah police spokeswoman, the man “managed to walk behind the counter, taking a cash register with $3,500 in it.”

Thanks to security camera monitoring, he was captured just six meters from the place while driving his car.

In an initial interview with detectives, the man denied having been in the restaurant at the time of the robbery, however, the evidence was sufficient and this suspect ended up being transported to the Miami-Dade County TGK Jail.

Eight days later, Pérez Mujica appeared in court where a judge snapped at him: “You are ordered to stay away from the San Lázaro cafeteria.”

In this first hearing, for the judge the evidence was more than enough, so she told him: “he will have to wait 21 days detained without bail to see a judge for his formal reading of charges”, which is scheduled for next May 24 .
