On Wednesday morning an armed robbery was committed on the leadership of a Boy Scout association in Steendorp. The scout group from Zwevegem is currently staying at camp there. The two perpetrators threatened those present with, among other things, a 9-millimeter pistol. They had to hand over personal belongings immediately, Nieuwsblad reports. Some wallets were stolen.
The perpetrators disappeared without a trace after their raid. No one was injured, but several people were in shock. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene as a precaution, but no one was taken to hospital. A team from the Red Cross is also present. The children would not have noticed much of the robbery, according to a spokeswoman.
The camp will be stopped immediately. “We are calling all parents and asking them to come and get their children.”
“The leadership is in shock about what happened,” says Jan Van Reusel of Scouts en Gidsen Vlaanderen. Police and prosecutors have not yet commented.
