The report of a person who appeared to be armed, in the parking lot of the Tracadie hospital, caused the closure of the establishment and the intervention of “several police resources”, Friday afternoon.
Around 1 p.m., the RCMP went to the scene to establish a perimeter and find the person in question, confirmed Sergeant LeBouthillier of the Tracadie detachment in an email to Acadie Nouvelle.
The search, however, was fruitless.
“After an extensive search of the area, police have not located or identified the suspicious person.”
The perimeter was lifted around 3:30 p.m. and the “confinement”, established as a precautionary measure, also ended.
The decision to temporarily close the hospital was taken by those in charge of the establishment, indicated Sergeant LeBouthillier, since they have in this regard “their own protocols”.
The investigation is continuing.
