Armed Forces of Ukraine Attack Infrastructure in Crimea: Drone Strike on Military Airport, Ammunition Depot, and Oil Depot

The Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked infrastructure facilities in the Krasnogvardei region of the Crimean Peninsula. The information was confirmed by the “governor” of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov. According to local Telegram channels, it is about a drone strike on the military airport, ammunition depot and oil depot in the village of Oktyabarskoe.

“Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are on site to eliminate possible consequences. All specialized services are working,” he wrote in Telegram. But it did not report any casualties or damage.

A little later, Aksyonov admitted that the situation was much more serious. “As a result of the attack by the armed forces of Ukraine, a detonation occurred in the ammunition warehouse. A decision was made to evacuate the population within a radius of 5 km from the site of the disaster to the centers for temporary accommodation”, said Aksyonov. Also, in order to minimize the risks, it was decided to stop traffic on the Crimean Railway. The consequences of the accident are planned to be liquidated in a short period of time,” he added.

The Crimean guerrilla movement “Atesh” announced a month ago that the Russian armed forces were transporting to this until recently abandoned airfield about 40-50 infantry fighting vehicles, KamAZ trucks and Tiger armored vehicles.

According to the Telegram channel “Ribar”, the strike was carried out with two British Storm Shadow cruise missiles. An oil storage facility and an ammunition depot of the Black Sea Fleet were hit, and a large fire broke out in the incident area.

“This is the first time that long-range Storm Shadow missiles have been used to strike targets in Crimea. Previously, the Ukrainian Armed Forces used similar missiles to attack the Chongar bridge, which connects the region with the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions,” he notes.

“Amid the preparations of the Ukrainian command for the second phase of the offensive, the strikes on the rear facilities of the Russian troops will only increase, including on the Crimean bridge,” said the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, yesterday.

Crimean Telegram channels posted videos showing columns of rising smoke and sounds of explosions. Oleg Kryuchkov, an adviser to the head of the administration of annexed Crimea, asked “everyone who knows the authors of these videos to report them to the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the FSB” and called the captured videos “work for the enemy”.

Approximately 40 minutes before Aksyonov’s announcement, the Crimean bridge was closed to traffic without explanation.

On July 19, the armed forces of Ukraine attacked a military training ground in the Kirov region of Crimea. Authorities had to block the Taurida highway and evacuate 2,200 people from villages near Feodosia. The munitions at the range were detonated for more than a day.
