Armed assaults on armored vehicles, seven arrests in Foggia

(ANSA) – FOGGIA, 04 SEPTEMBER – Seven people have been arrested by the Carabinieri in the Foggia area because they are believed to be responsible for an armed assault on an armored van, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, receiving stolen goods, possession and carrying of weapons – including war weapons. Most of those arrested are from Cerignola. The arrests were carried out in execution of a precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge of the Foggia court at the request of the prosecutor. The investigation concerns an assault on an armored van, which occurred on December 3, 2021 in Ascoli Satriano along the SS 655, and at least one attempted robbery on another armored van, which occurred on January 21 in the same area, which failed due to the activation of the armored vehicle’s security devices. The attack was carried out by a commando armed with pistols and war rifles that arrived on board high-powered cars used to ram the armored van, which in its escape used heavy vehicles to block the road and nail bands to prevent the circulation of vehicles. During the investigation, the Carabinieri reconstructed three robberies committed between the provinces of Foggia and Bat against as many truck drivers, charged with various counts by four suspects, who – with the help of unidentified accomplices – allegedly stopped the drivers of the articulated trucks along the road, forcing them to hand over the vehicle and abandoning them in an isolated place.
