Armand Duplantis easily managed to get over six meters in his first competition of the season. In the first attempt, he took over as the only jumper over 6.02. The American KC Lightfoot was the only one besides the Swede who managed 5.89.
Duplantis rose to 6.19 – one centimeter above his own world record. He tore in the first attempt. In the second, he took the bar with him on the way down. In the third attempt he was closer, but there was no record this time.
Except for Armand Duplantis world record hunt looms an indoor World Cup in Belgrade in March and an outdoor one in Eugene in July for him and the other athletes.
The long jumper Thobias Montler took tonight’s second Swedish victory at the German gala. He jumped twice over eight meters and hit with his 8.02 Frenchman Erwan Konaté by four centimeters.
Andreas Kramer came second at 800 meters, just over half a second behind the British Elliot Giles.
Lovisa Lindh finished sixth and last at the same distance. World champion Halimah Nakaayi from Uganda won in 2.02.81.
