Armand Duplantis once again delighted the world of athletics. The Swede improved his own world record in pole vaulting, and he did it during the Diamond League competition in Eugene.
A dozen or so days ago, during the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Armand Duplantis gave his rivals no chance and won the gold medal. Once he was sure of it, the organizers set the bar at a height of 6.23 m. This is how he wanted to attack the world record.
It didn’t work out, but it was only a matter of time. The Swede did an amazing thing during the final meeting of the Diamond League in Eugene. First he probably scored 6.02 and then he was sure of triumph. And then, in his first attempt, he reached 6.23 m, and then he became euphoric. Duplantis’ previous record was 6.22 m.
How dominant he is in the world of pole vaulting is proven by the fact that in the 2023 season he won 16 out of 17 competitions in which he took part. In 2022, he was the best in 11 competitions out of 12. And everything indicates that he will rule this competition for many years to come. And with a jump of 6.23 m, he most likely did not say his last word yet.
Let us add that Duplantis is not the only athlete who broke the world record during Sunday’s meeting in Eugene. Earlier, Gudaf Tsegay achieved the best result in history in the 5000 meters (4:00.21).
