A 31-year-old man from Coventry in England was convicted on Friday of killing three-month-old Arlo Breslin in June 2018.
The man, who is a family member, was to look after Arlo for an hour while the baby’s mother was to deliver her three other children to school and the father of the child went to work.
When the mother returned, the 31-year-old stood with the lifeless child in her arms and shouted her name, the police in the West Midlands write in a press release.
Arlo was transported to the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham with a cardiac arrest. He died two days later.
Autopsied
The 31-year-old has always denied criminal guilt and says that Arlo was asleep. When he went to see him, the kid had seizures and had a seizure, according to the man’s explanation.
But the autopsy report showed that Arlo had major head injuries due to being shaken. The 31-year-old was arrested and earlier this year charged in the case, writes BBC.
– Arlo is our miracle baby, we love him very, very much. We will never forget you, dear. Sleep well, our angel. Continue to shine on us, the family says in a press release.
Highly loved
Police in the West Midlands say the case has made a strong impression on them.
– This has been an unusually sad case to investigate, and it has had a terrible impact on the family. Little Arlo was a healthy and happy baby, who was much loved, says Michelle Allen at the police in the West Midlands.
– I hope that the verdict gives them some comfort and lets them begin the mourning process. Our thoughts are with them.
The 31-year-old was convicted of premeditated murder in Warwick Crown Court on Friday. The sentencing is expected today.
