Arles. Three bulls escape downtown, one injured woman

Three Camargue bulls who participated this Tuesday March 23 in a photo shoot in front of the arenas ofArles (Bouches-du-Rhône) escaped, one of them injuring a septuagenarian, but all were captured.

The bulls served as models for a poster

The three bulls were to serve as models for the new poster of the « Cocarde d’Or », a Camargue race which takes place every year in July in Arles. The Camargue race is a form of bullfighting specific to the South-East of France, the bull is never killed there, unlike bullfighting.

“If two of them were quickly caught up, the third jumped into the Rhône” that he swam across a particularly wide part of the river to reach another part of the city.

70-year-old woman knocked down

In its course, the animal collided with a 70-year-old lady who was jogging. The victim was taken to hospital where his life is not in danger.

The animal was captured by herdsmen – horse guardians of the herds of bulls in the Camargue – assisted by national and municipal police officers and members of the emergency services.

The mayor of Arles Patrick de Carolis congratulated all the speakers “For their efficiency in this somewhat special mission”.
