After a very turbulent season, the Ark slowly reaches the shore. The cruise on the waters called “Ekstraklasa” ends after four years. Last year was particularly difficult for the residents of Gdynia. Initially, the captain of the yellow-blue ship was trainer Jacek Zieliński, who saved him from smashing last season. His place was taken by Aleksandar Rogić, who could not cope, so in March he had to be replaced by an assistant – Krzysztof Sobieraj. His preparations for departure from the port were in full swing, but ultimately Arka went on a difficult cruise with a new helmsman – Ireneusz Mamrot, employed in May.

His mission was unsuccessful. Mamrot must now prepare the crew to cover the first division water. As many as ten crew members fell overboard along the way of the Ark. For various reasons, Gdynia said goodbye: Aleksandyr Kolew, Goran Cvijanović, Azer Bušuladžić, Samuel Araujo, Nando, Marcin Budziński, Christian Maghoma, Nemanja Mihajlović, Michael Olczyk, Santiago Samanes. The list is long, although it must be admitted that Gdynia will not miss any of these players. Just like Davit Schirtladze and Fabian Serrares, who were not in the match squad for the last meeting with ŁKS (3: 2). And according to the words of coach Mamrot, players who do not fit in the protocol will not be taken into account when building his team. Georgian is still one of the better players who came to the club last summer, but recently it has clearly lowered its tone. Perhaps this was caused by injuries, but in any case Schirtladze can be replaced in Gdynia, probably also for the benefit of the club’s budget. And here we come to one of the main reasons why Ark, instead of completing the squad for next season, must prepare to play in its back. The number of average foreigners with high contracts who came to the club before and during the season was too high. Money could be used much more wisely and here you can blame the sports department for which Antoni Łukasiewicz is responsible.
– Everyone who knows the realities of the Polish league and knew the realities in the Ark was aware that the departure of three players who participated in 70 percent of goals scored will cause considerable weakening. Probably nobody at that moment (last summer – editor’s note) did not count on miracles. I was a realist all the time, I told what the situation was like, but unfortunately it happened differently – said in May “Przegląd Sportowy” Jacek Zieliński, who started the current season with Arek. The trainer meant the departure of Michał Janota, Luka Zarandia and Marko Vejinović. The latter joined the team again on August 28.
In search of speed
The current training staff had time to diagnose and find problems that were causing the syndrome. One of them is the lack of dynamics. The Arkkow run a lot, but not very intensively.
– We run a lot during the match, because most players have more developed endurance features. For me, these kilometers do not have to be that many, more important are those run in sprint and fast runs. This is the characteristics of the team, so we will definitely look for players in terms of motor. Training can improve speed, but to a minimal extent – explains Mamrot.
