One couple from ‘Married at First Sight’ is on their way to the wedding hall, while the other couple is already enjoying their honeymoon. It all means nothing, because the experts of the program know from experience that a marriage at every stage carries risks. With Arjan and Maurice, that relationship crisis takes place very quickly.

Less than 24 hours ago Arjan and Maurice said ‘yes, I want’ to each other. Yet they are not enjoying their honeymoon now, as other couples do. When Arjan and Maurice say goodbye to each other after the wedding night to pack their bags and find peace, Arjan is in doubt. The situation does not feel right for him and that is why presenter Carlo Boszhard visits him. According to the groom, things were not going well with him during the wedding and he did not understand anything about the match from the start. “He’s a very nice man, but I didn’t feel like he’s my man.”
“We thought for a while: maybe it is a panic attack. That is understandable, because such an experiment is quite confronting”, behavioral biologist Patrick van Veen tries to explain Arjan’s behavior. “But the way he reacts now, really disappointed in the match, I can’t fit that into what we saw yesterday. Something happened somewhere that we can’t see at the moment. This is a new situation for us. “

Maurice is also disappointed with the situation. “Of course it comes to me,” he tells Carlo over the phone. However, the book is not yet closed for him. “Standing there yesterday, I promised him: for better or for worse, whatever happens, I will always be there for you. I really see this as something that can happen in life, only we get there very quickly confronted with it.” He therefore simply gets on the plane to Porto, where the honeymoon is going. “Of course it is also a bit exciting after everything that has happened, but I’m looking forward to it. It will be fine.”
Arjan doesn’t pack any bags yet. He is mainly characterized by uncertainty and despair. “Everything he is, I think of that: it’s not right,” he tells his story. “I also almost said ‘no’. I really thought: if I do it, I have to say ‘no’ now.” In the end he doesn’t do it, because Arjan thinks it’s unfair to his soon-to-be. “I won’t say I acted, but I did have to get all my positivity out of it to make it through. (…) I wouldn’t say I had different expectations, but I did have a more positive one. , happier feeling when expected.”

Astrid and Sander are on their honeymoon together in Mallorca. There they live their dream, at least: Sander’s dream. The newlyweds are going to ‘triken’. Finally, in the episode we meet the sixth couple: Kim and Antoine. Kim has just returned to the Netherlands for a year after living in Tenerife for about ten years. Although she has enjoyed the island immensely, she has endured quite a few setbacks in the past year. For example, she first lost her ‘Tenerife mother’, who had taken over the role from her mother. Not long after, her boyfriend, with whom she had been together for four years, also died. “There were too many memories in Tenerife, so I went back to the Netherlands and left Tenerife behind,” she says.
Kim is paired with Antoine, who is looking for someone who is sociable and enterprising. “They’re just two very social people who are in the right phase of their lives,” the experts said.
