The beloved tango queen, Arja Koriseva, 59, older sister Eija, 60, was once a familiar sight on stage with her little sister.

Eija also enjoyed a singing career for a long time. It all started when, when Eija was 15 years old, he was asked to be a singer in the villagers’ band in the sisters’ hometowns in Toivaka, Central Finland.

– I was quite shy and said that I would leave if Arja could go with me, Eija tells Iltalehte in Toivaka.

That’s how Sisters and the Boys of Peräkylä was born, whose journey lasted a few years.

– We’ve been like twins when we were little. We’ve always supported each other and worked hard for each other, says Eija.

Since then, Eija started a family and her children grew up. He decided to participate in the Radiotähti competition, which he won first in Finland, and his singing career took off.

Eija says that he made his concert debut at Merikarvia in the spring of 1996, after which he spent twenty years on the stage.

Of course, he also worked elsewhere, such as in a sewing shop and a porcelain store. He also spent 6 years as a real estate agent until it was time for the next change in his career.

Behind the career change is the sisters’ mother Senja Koriseva. The village of Toivaka had been without a restaurant of any kind for three years, and mother had said aloud that if she were 10–15 years younger, she would set up a restaurant.

– He told me to find the guys and you’ll do it, Eija says.

It has now been eight years since the restaurant Sun Toive, established in Toivakka, has been in Eija’s possession. According to his mother’s instructions, he “invented” a couple of friends who were involved in starting the activity. For seven years, the restaurant has been a family business.

The restaurateur’s career has taken her with her, and Eija answers in the negative when inquiring about her desire to return to the singing and dancing stages.

– I’m old enough now that I’ll be stuck in the garden, so to speak. It is my passion and hobby, he says.

His singing career was left behind when he took the restaurant business with him, and it’s been seven years since he last performed.

Instead, in the restaurant, he says that he often sings to himself and does karaoke in his restaurant. In the past, for example, on Boxing Day, she entertained as the hostess of the evening both behind the counter and with a microphone in hand.

– Sometimes we sing together with Arja, but now we no longer have any Koriseva duo in a professional sense. A time for each, Eija line.

Eija describes her restaurant as the living room of the whole village, and right now there’s tension on Sundays about Arja’s sister’s success Dancing with the stars in the competition.

– I tense up and stare so that no one is allowed to disturb me even a bit. I can read her and I can see the emotions in her dancing. Let’s hope that the sister will go far, he says.

Big sister reveals that she was most excited about Arja’s first TTK dance, and not only because it was the first of its kind.

– When I was doing singing gigs, someone came to tell me that I noticed that you and Arja know how to dance Cha Cha chat, but you start at the wrong pace.

At the first dance, Arja told how she had to learn to count in a new way.

– It was that he had to learn from that mistake from so many years ago and learn the new one, Eija explains.

– That dance was the most exciting. I thought that the others will surely be fine, he predicted.
