The Arico forest fire, which started in the morning of last Thursday, has managed to be stabilized after the intervention throughout the night of one hundred ground troops.
They have worked to control hot spots along the 27-kilometer perimeter. In addition, with the first rays of the day, this Sunday the aerial means have joined the extinction work.
In total, 3,300 hectares have been affected, although thanks to the favorable meteorological conditions the fire has not been able to cross the municipality of Arico or reach population centers.
After his visit to the area this Saturday, Mayor Sebastián Martín assured that “on the bad side, the positive part is that the entire pine forest has not burned; the fire has affected the extensions of land, the ground and the understory, without damaging the tops of the pines ”.
Likewise, after giving up the front that had entered the Teide National Park, efforts have been concentrated in the last hours on the left flank, near Tamadaya.
With a noticeable drop in temperatures and an increase in humidity, it is expected that in the next few hours the fire can be controlled and finally extinguished. However, the strong gusts of wind that hit the island are worrying.
