Arica Nativa Film Festival closes its 16th edition with Conservation Festival

After three years, this Monday the Arica Nativa Native Film Festival closed its programming with a beach party dedicated to the conservation of the planet.

At sunset, Paulina Camus began her live presentation, to then give way to the Arica Nativa 2021 award ceremony. The Arica musician Raishar and the Rockoto Sonoro Band also participated in the event, which made the people present dance until after the midnight. The Festival’s giant screen screened the winning film from Filmin Arica / Tacna and made it possible to contact filmmakers who won in the different categories in competition.

More than 70 films were available on the Arica Nativa website during the 12 days of the festival, along with this, the learning program included talks, meetings and workshops.

Winners

In the Rural Largos category, the winning film was Mujer de Soldado by Patricia Wiesse (Peru); Along with this he received the special prize from the Piedra Sola jury by Alejandro Telemaco (Argentina). In the Rural Shorts category, the winner was El Silencio del Río (Peru); and received the special award from the jury, La Yurera de María Ávalos (Brazil-Paraguay).

For its part, the Jallalla Largos category awarded The Lost Art of Seasoning by Abo Arangham and presented the special jury prize to I´m Modern I´m Indigenous by Carlos Eduardo Magalhães, (Brazil). In Jallalla Cortos, the tropero went to My Weaving Hands from Rio “Riquis” Castañeda (Mexico); while the special prize of the jury went to Sek Buy – The Ritual to the Sun by William Cayapur Delgado (Colombia).

In Mallku Largos the award went to Ophir by Alexandre Berman and Olivier Pollet (France); while the jury’s special prize went to Once Upon a Time. The History of Caimanes by Matías Palma (Chile). Mallku Cortos awarded Korovadu by Rafael Pease (Chile); and the special jury award was presented to Melting Landscapes. Glaciers by Pepe Molina Cruz (Spain).

The Tropero de Á (f) rika Largos was for Herencia de Thomas Belet (France-Colombia); while the jury’s special prize was awarded to Barcelona, ​​Christin Schuchardt’s Host City (Germany-Spain). For his part Á (f) rika Cortos awarded Urubá by Rodrigo Sena (Brazil); and the special jury prize, Mudanca de Welket Bungué (Portugal), was awarded.

The Filmin´ Arica-Tacna category recognized A School Called America by Pablo Mardones, Antonia Mardones and María Paz Espinoza (Chile); also delivering the special jury award to We Were Not Queens because we will be Goddesses by Gabriela Espinoza (Chile) and Afroresistencias. Living Memories in a Corner of the Andes by Yanina Ríos (Chile).

Finally, in the Wawa 7-13 years category, the Waste in the Sea and the Water Crisis by Christopher Aracena (Chile) was awarded; and the special jury award was given to the film Animal Abuse of 7th Grade World School Students (India). For its part, the Wawa category 14-17 years old, presented the award to the Pandemic Capsule of Salvador Zamorano (Chile); and the special jury award was given to Cavihue from Club Audiovisual 8 1/2, (Argentina).

Satisfaction

María Paz Espinoza, co-director of A School Called America, pointed out that “the transmission of the film on the big screen was very exciting. It is great that it has been recognized, because our intention is to take another look at the issue of migration so that it stops criminalizing and this is a way to put the issue on the table ”.

For her part, Paulina Camus, national singer-songwriter, referred to her participation in the Festival: “I am very happy because I have always greatly admired the work of Arica Nativa. I had participated before as a spectator, but being able to be part of the artistic grid makes me feel very happy and honored. We had a great time playing at Cine Colón and Playa el Laucho. I am very grateful for the invitation and I hope I can participate again ”, she commented.

Ricardo Rodríguez, director of the Festival, said that “this year we returned to the presence and it has been a challenge, but we are happy to achieve it. Despite the pandemic, we find ourselves in different places in the region with music, gastronomy and movies. We had the honor of reopening the Cine Colón and showing again on the beach ”.

The 16th Festival of Native Films Arica Nativa toured the Arica and Parinacota region, taking its mobile screen to Codpa, Parque Punta Norte, Putre, Pueblo Artesanal de Arica, Timar and Playa el Laucho and was carried out with the support of the Support Program for Collaborating Cultural Organizations of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.
