Arianna Camilli, a talented actress and director from the Swiss canton of Jura, has been awarded a prestigious one-year residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. The announcement was made by Martial Courtet, the Minister of Training, Culture, and Sports, following a recommendation from the cantonal commission for scholarships and artists’ workshops.
Camilli,a 1998 Porrentruy native, holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Manufacture, the renowned High School of Performing Arts in Lausanne. In 2021,she founded the theater company DieselReclame, based in Porrentruy. Her work is known for its unique blend of writing, physical performance, and sound experimentation. “Her artistic approach combines writing, bodily performance and sound experimentation,” the commission noted in its announcement.
Camilli’s extraordinary portfolio includes her 2022 solo performance, The Idiot, and her 2024 staging of The Wolfdog Century, which toured French-speaking Switzerland as part of the Midi-théâtre festival. She plans to use her time in Paris to further develop her skills, particularly in computer-assisted music (MAO), and to create new stage projects, drawing inspiration from the vibrant Parisian arts scene. “She aspires to enrich her research thanks to the Parisian artistic excitement, particularly in independent and specialized spaces,” the commission stated.
The cantonal commission praised Camilli’s “very high quality” request and her “artistic and professional approach.” The Jura canton has secured a residency at the Cité internationale des arts every other year since 1986, alternating with Visarte Tessin. The residency includes a 1,500 Swiss franc monthly stipend. Camilli follows in the footsteps of previous Jura recipients Lou Rais and Maeva Rubli.
Camilli’s residency begins in July 2025, offering her a unique prospect to immerse herself in the rich artistic landscape of Paris and further refine her craft. Her work promises to be one to watch, both in Switzerland and internationally.
this prestigious award highlights the growing recognition of Swiss talent on the global stage and underscores the importance of international collaborations in the arts.
