Argoliva 2023: International Olive Council Executive Director Jaime Lillo Highlights Importance of Argentina’s Olive Industry

This past Wednesday at the opening ceremony of Argoliva 2023 it was exciting to hear the Spanish Jaime Lillo, executive director appointed last June as the new executive director of the International Olive Council for 2024 -IOC-, highlight Argoliva: “It is a satisfaction to be able to thank the Argentine agricultural authorities and the province of San Juan, who wanted to have the IOC participate in the opening of this edition. Because we are aware that Argoliva is without a doubt the most important olive growing event on the American continent.”

“You will see it by the number of Argentine and international companies participating in the contest, the quality of the exhibitors and the exhibitions,” said Lillo, later adding: “But it is also a very important reference of the commitment to the quality of olive oil. of the companies of Argentina in particular and of the entire Southern Hemisphere in general”.

And this “is reflected in these awards for the quality of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento extra virgin olive oil, which is sponsored by the IOC.” And he explained: “This award follows all the rigorous standards established by a group of international experts from the IOC, to give the greatest guarantees to an international quality competition”; adding: “Because it is an institutional, non-profit award, with a rigorous protocol for receiving samples and organoleptic analysis, following all the specifications of the tasting sheet and all the treatment to be able to give recognition to the producers who “That’s how they achieve it. With this I want to give my congratulations and recognition to the organizers.”

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Production and Economic Development, Ariel Lucero, the rector of the Catholic University of Cuyo, -organizing institution- María Laura Simonassi; the Head of the Regional Productive Systems Area of ​​the CFI, engineer Claudio Ernesto García.
