The Whoosh Fast Train on the Jakarta-Bandung route has started commercial operations with a fare of IDR 300 thousand. A similar line also has the Argo Parahyangan Train (KA), what will happen to it?
The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) ensures that Argo Parahyangan will continue to operate. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Adita Irawati said that the fast train and Argo Parahyangan have different passenger segments.
“Argo Parahyangan, like the Minister of Transportation, always says it will still be around. The segmentation will definitely be different because perhaps Argo Parahyangan fans really want to enjoy a trip that can see more of the scenery and maybe be more relaxed,” he said at Halim Station, Jakarta, Tuesday ( 17/10/2023) and quoted Wednesday (18/10).
Adita also did not deny the plan for the Argo Parahyangan to become a tourist train. According to Adita, this is one of the studies for Argo Parahyangan.
“One of our studies is so that later the segmentation is truly divided, so they don’t compete with each other, but can be divided. But that is still under discussion, of course KAI will have to have a plan too,” he said.
However, Adita emphasized that the Argo Parahyangan plan to become a tourist train needed to be discussed with the operator.
“There is a discourse on that, and the Minister of Transportation has conveyed it, but of course this discourse must be discussed with the operators, because they will also be the ones operating it,” said Adita.
The ticket prices for the two trains are different. The Whoosh fast train ticket price is IDR 300 thousand with the current promotional price being IDR 150 thousand. Meanwhile, the Argo Parahyangan train has the cheapest ticket price, around IDR 150 thousand for Economy class, then IDR 200 thousand for Executive class, and IDR 435 thousand – IDR 510 thousand for Luxury class.
