The match between Argentinos Juniors and Sarmiento de Junín, valid for the 10th round of the Professional League, had a great number of ingredients for the most nostalgic football lovers. The return of Gabriel Hauche to the Semillero del Mundo (although the match began among the substitutes), the presence of Racing idol Lisandro López (also in the relief sector), the ownership of the ex Boca player Nicolás Gaitán, the quality of Nicolás Oroz, the goal-scoring ability of Maxi Romero and the return of Luciano Gondou after his participation in the Olympic Games with Javier Mascherano’s Under 23 National Team represented solid arguments to imagine a great spectacle.
However, the first half ended with a scoreless score. The dominance of Pablo Guede’s team was not enough to break the defensive lock of the visitors, given that Lucas Acosta stood out on three occasions against the attempts of Thiago Santamaría, Nico Oros and Alan Lescano. Israel Damonte’s team, meanwhile, wasted the only counterattack they could generate when Ezequiel Naya failed to connect with his shot when he was in front of Ruso Rodríguez. An explanation to solve the limitations of their forward was just a few meters away, on the substitutes’ bench.
In the second half, a defensive error by Tobias Palacio gave Naya the opportunity to celebrate the first goal, but the forward failed again against the former Independiente goalkeeper. And the Verde’s anger increased when Gabriel Gudiño failed to capitalize on his teammate’s pass when the last line of the Bicho was in disarray.
The home team’s response came from a dead ball. A beautiful backheel from Alan Lescano that went just inches wide of Acosta’s left post could have established a minimal advantage, but fortune was not on the side of the Buenos Aires team. At the Diego Armando Maradona there were no winners, nor losers.
How will the date continue? On Friday, the Professional League will have four matches, including the duel between Racing and Gimnasia de La Plata in Avellaneda. On Saturday, it will be the turn of Boca Juniors, who will visit Independiente Rivadavia at the Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza. In addition, River Plate will receive the leader Huracán at the Monumental and the classic between Rosario Central and Newell’s will be played.
Four more matches will be played on Sunday, including the match between Estudiantes and Independiente. On Monday, Tigre and Godoy Cruz will close the 10th round.
