NEW YORK (AP) — Argentine forward Valentin Castellanos set a career high with four goals and Sean Johnson saved five shots on goal in New York City FC’s 6-0 rout of Real Salt Lake on Sunday.
Castellanos defined twice from the penalty spot before capping off his performance with another goal in the 80th minute.
Brazilian attacker Thiago also had two goals for NYCFC (2-3-1) in the win.
It was the worst defeat that Real Salt Lake has suffered in its history.
On the following day, NYCFC will receive Toronto next Sunday; RSL will visit the Portland Timbers on Saturday.
And in Los Angeles, an Ismael Tajouri goal proved crucial as Los Angeles FC recorded a 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City.
Tajouri’s touchdown gave LAFC (5-1-1) a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute. Ecuadorian side Diego Palacios gave the pass to goal.
Colombian striker Christian Arango and Ecuadorian midfielder José Cifuentes scored the other two goals for LAFC, which travels to Cincinnati next Sunday.
Sporting KC will host the Columbus Crew a day early.
