La Albiceleste lost their opening game against Italy 0-1 (0-0), the team is threatened with being eliminated from the preliminary round again in the finals in Australia and New Zealand. Substitute Cristiana Girelli scored just before the end in Auckland (87th minute) for the Italians who had advanced to the quarter-finals at the last World Cup.
